George Canyon Every artist has his or her "time of arrival." It is that undeniable moment when he or she knows that the masses have finally embraced their songs, their voice and their artistry. For George Canyon that moment seemed to escape him for years as he won over fans one bar room at a time touring around the Canadian club circuit. Then in the spring of 2004, George experienced his "time of arrival". It happened in front of millions of viewers during the sophomore season of USA Network's NASHVILLE STAR. Canyon's deep baritone echoed through the Grand Old Opry as he finished his version of Willie Nelson's "Seven Spanish Angels." Nelson himself was in attendance that night, as a guest judge and he initiated a standing ovation for Canyon. Always humble, George bowed gracefully to his fans and to Nelson and breathed a sigh of gratification. It had all been worth it. Later that month, Canyon scored a top 15 hit with his indie single "Good Day to Ride" and "the ride" still gallops along... Nashville heavyweights, Tony Brown and Tim Dubois teamed up for Canyon's debut release on Universal South entitled "One Good Friend." The album earned Canyon a gold record in Canada, and a smash hit with the power ballad "My Name." Multiple CCMA awards for Fans Choice, Male Artist, Single of the Year, and a Juno all preempted a sold out cross Canada tour. Canyon's second album, "Somebody Wrote Love" included the infectious title track, the timeless anthem "Drinkin Thinkin," and another monster ballad called "I Want You to Live." The video depicted George as a Canadian soldier who loses his life in battle. Fans responded to the video with ardent admiration and sent it to the top of the CMT Chevy Top 20 for 3 consecutive weeks! As 2007 closed, Canyon thought it was time to pay tribute to the biggest influences in his career with an album chalked full of his favourite songs from some of his iconic idols. The first single, a raucous rendition of Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire," and it is one of several classics that Canyon has paid homage to with the project. The album that salutes the past has given Canyon the chance to springboard even further into the future, and it holds a plethora of opportunities. Canyon will take his show to Europe, and a tour in Asia is likely to follow. A Hollywood producer has taken notice of George's rugged good looks and impeccable horsemanship and negotiations are underway to include Canyon in an upcoming western movie. Plus fans in Canada and the US will always get a chance to satiate their appetite for a Canyon live show, as George is always eager to "take it to the people," and maintains an aggressive tour schedule.
